The major problem with this Fine rubber material is that it is super soft and will melt easily. The Living Rubber will sometimes have a chemical reaction with the contact of other harsher materials (lead, plastic worms, ect.), or if you leave these jigs in the sun to long they will molt together. This creates a giant mess, not to mention the fact that these hand tied jigs cost over 6 dollars. To prevent this problem, one of the leading Japanese fishing companies ZAPPU, created a liquid that protects the jig and prevents this mess from happening. Personally, I have not noticed that using the Zappu Special Rubber conditioner repels the fish from holding onto the bait. Short strikes are not an issue, being as the rubber absorbs the product right away. So if you have invested money in these fancy Japanese Fine Rubber Jigs I would suggest making the small purchase of the special rubber conditioner. You can find it at Lees Global Tackle under the Fishing Accessories category.

Seaguar Tatsu

Hello to all,

I would like to announce that tomorrow Sept. 15 2010 will be the first day of the new Seaguar Tatsu Fluorocarbon line Promotion. For those fishermen who are not familiar with the “Tatsu” line, it is the newest finest Fluorocarbon line that Seaguar makes. Setting the standard for excellence in the industry Seaguar by using two different resins to make one solid line. It has a very abrasion resistant outer shell that is very soft and supple to the touch. Although the outer shell is not like other fluorocarbon lines, the inside is. It is very sensitive, strong, and totally invisible under the water. In a recent tournament on Lake St. Clair I had my Jerkbait rod and Crankbait rod spooled with 8 lb, and 10lb. test Tatsu. I was very suprised by the strength of the 8lb, because I had it on a 6’8 med. hvy. rod for deep jerkbaits. The fish were crushing the bait and I would give a stiff hook set, without breaking the line. Very Impressive! The line also got the Deep Diving Pointers down to the bottom when other Fluorocarbons I had used would not. I have been a long time “Toray” Fan, and you can trust me when I say that I have used just about every fluorocarbon on the market, but the new Tatsu is a line worth trying.

Deep Diving Pointer 100 (ROYAL SHAD)

For the next 15 days Seaguar will be offering a free t shirt or hat with any purchase of a spool. Check it out on our site.

Fish On,

Pete Sagartz

Beard-A-Thon :: Blackhawks :: Profile

Beard-A-Thon :: Blackhawks :: Profile

Posted using ShareThis

Shimano Cumulus Rods are Ever So Light

I have been a huge fan of the Diawa Steeze rods and reels, because of the rod weight and sensitivity, but in the back of my mind I have been wondering when Diawa's Rival Shimano will come out with their top shelf competitor. Shimano just introduced their Cumulus Series rods, with rods as light as 78 grams. Shimano made these rods in 3 spinning versions, and 3 bait casting versions. They have a very sensitive light and fast tip, but plenty of beef for some big smallies or spotted bass.

Now when it comes to Baitcasting rods, a 7 ft. medium heavy is my all around favorite fishing stick, but it seemed like these cumulus medium heavy's were a little lighter than other medium heavy's I have used. I was planning on picking up the 6'10 for deep diving jerkbaits like the pointer 100, but decided to take a pass after comparing it to my G Loomis IMX 7 ft. Otherwise it would be an awesome deep water crankbait or jig rod. These rods are defiantly something that all bass fishermen need to check out, they have a great price point, they have superior quality, and they carry Shimano's Over the Counter Lifetime Warranty.

Uptons Hand Poured Worms

Hey guys,
We just started carrying these Upton's Hand Poured custom worms. Anglers and lure makers have tinkered with head shape for the last few decades. But don’t be fooled by the relative simplicity of the jig. The pace of modification and improvement has accelerated dramatically in recent years.

And leave it to the Japanese to adopt the finest components, add features, and find new ways to improve jig performance!

By reshaping heads, altering hook style and size, adjusting hook eye angle, and adding superior paint jobs and skirts, the jig has gone from a generic piece of terminal tackle to a sophisticated, finely engineered artificial lure.

Here’s what came in with the latest Lee’s Global Tackle Connection shipment!

Deps Head Lock Jig – The Deps Head Lock Jig had been the guarded secret of a handful of successful Midwest tournament anglers until Jason Knapp won last season’s Bassmaster Northern Open on Lake Champlain with it! The supply of this deadly jig remains limited, but they are available NOW at Lee’s Global Tackle! The latest addition to this premium jig line is the chartreuse skirt on a chartreuse jig head!

Deps Hyper Football Jig – The Deps Hyper Football sports a shorter, squatter football head than its sister jig from Deps, the Head Lock. (Compare the former, if you will, to the football of the leather helmet era prior to the advent of the forward pass, which led to the football’s subtly more elongated design.) On the bass end of the bait is a longer hook, which accommodates a larger bodied trailer. (No need to bite off the end of that craw bait!) [NOTE: While you are at it, check out the Deps Flat Back Jig, a swimming jig designed to move through heavy cover and vegetation. It is available in ½- and ¾-ounce varieties…if they are still in stock!]

Megabass Flamingo Stand-Up Mushroom Head Jig – Yes, Megabass makes a jig in addition to its blowaway hardbaits, magic wand rods and $1200 reels! This stand-up jig will walk over rock and wood. It keeps the tail-end of any attractive trailer up high so it can wave seductively and catch the eye of a bass on the prowl. The tough but flexible weed guard is molded into the jig ahead of a stout hook that will allow you to strong-arm even giant bass out of thick cover.

Noike Wild Kem Kem Jig – These small jigs (2.0-, 2.5- and 3.0 gram) are sparsely skirted, trim-neck finesse jigs that are perfect for tough, clear-water conditions when nothing else seems to work. The company was founded by Seiji Kato designer of the Sammy and Pointer for Lucky Craft before he set out on his own entrepreneurial track.

Seiji brought the Flick Shake technique along with his Flick Shake worm and jighead to the United States to revolutionize wacky worm fishing here. Success with the Flick Shake prompted anglers to test the effectiveness of the Jackall hardbaits. Well, if you are a fan of Japanese tackle, you know much of the rest of the Jackall story.

But we’re about to add another chapter to the bait’s success!

Lee’s Global Tackle Connection has located two of Jackall’s finest finesse plastics – baits currently unavailable in the United States.

Jackall Lake Police Super Crosstail Shad – If you have tried the standard Crosstail Shad sold by Jackall in the U.S., you already know it as one of the best dropshot baits on the market. Now brace yourself for the Super Crosstail Shad, a realistic multi-layered, partially transparent hand-pour. The very subtle rudder on the back underside of this bait stabilizes it, projecting the profile of a live baitfish.

Jackall Lake Police Superpin-Tail — This four-inch bait will have Great Lakes smallmouth believing they are biting a native emerald shiner or related baitfish. This hand-poured finesse plastic requires little or no action on the part of the angler. The incidental movement of hand and boat will send a lifelike shiver through this supple bait. Examine the realistic eyes and awesome appearance of this bait! These baits are tough to find, but Lee’s has a limited supply available now.

The New Site is up and running

Launched the new site a month ago, we have been adding tackle every week. Whether its imported Japanese Tackle, or Clearance baits check back often because we will have a bunch of great deals. Its hard to import the japanese tackle right now because of the weak american dollar, but we are working hard to get our customers better deals. If there is anything anyone is looking for let us know. This week we got a ton of Gamakatsu Value Pack hooks that we are selling for 9 bucks, and also Joe Thomas Lucky Craft lures for 9 bucks. Enjoy guys. Pretty soon I will be blogging about the new Lowrance Side Imaging. I am going to try to help you narrow down your choices. You have to choose a 12v, 24v, or 36v system for the trolling motor. For those of you that know as much about electricity as I do 12v is one battery, 24v is two, and 36v is three batteries. The way to choose the power that you need is by how much your boat weighs and what you are doing with it. For small boats under 1000 lbs. a 12v system should work out fine. The Minn Kota Endura is great for a transom mount, but a Minn Kota Edge is more suited for the bow mount. For boats from 1000 lbs. to 2000 lbs. a 24v system is required, so the batteries will not run out quickly. For bass boats a bow mounted Minn Kota Maxxum would be a great choice, and then for a Deep V or multi species boat a Minn Kota PowerDrive or Minn Kota Terrova would be ideal. Now that you have chosen the correct power you need to look at shaft length. Minn Kota Motors makes Composite Trolling motor shafts from 36"- 60". The advantages of lenth depends on the draft and height of your boat. Larger boats like big walleye boats and Great lakes Bass boats, need the longer 54"- 60" shafts to keep the motor head in the water while bouncing in the waves. Where as the shorter 48" shaft is good for shallow water fishermen. Now onto the most important part of choosing a trolling motor, choosing the thrust. The thrust determines the force the motor excerts to pull the boat. The thrust ranges are from 36 lbs. to 101 lbs. Depending on the what you are using the boat for is what you need the thrust for.

Big Waves - Heavy Boat = Strong Thrust
Smaller water - Smaller boat = Less Thrust

Protect you fishing investment

If you are like me you have invested quite a bit of money into your fishing equipment. Whether it be the 400 dollar rod and reel's, or the custom Japanese crankbaits and jerkbaits. You need to guard them from theft. Most fishermen are constantly traveling and sleeping in hotels, where the boat is at risk for punks to steal you equipment. Well there is a couple ways to battle against these thiefs. The first method is to take all the removable equipment such as: electronics, trolling motors, rod holders, and seats and store them in your front storage compartments or locking storage boxes. This way they are out of sight, and not as easy to grab. Next I highly suggest looking into a Loc-r-Bar. It is a stainless steel bar that is mounted across your storage compartments, it is telescopic so you can recess it into the locking mechanisms on the sides of the boat. It is then locked in the middle with a stainless steel padlock. Even if the thieves break your hatch locks they cannot access the storage compartments. For a minimal price and installation its definatly worth it to invest in protecting your fishing tackle.

Side Imaging "Greatest thing since sliced bread"

Well someone finally did it, you thought underwater cameras were cheating, how about a underwater canvas painted onto your fishfinder screen. I have a few friends that are FLW pros that ordered the unit from us, and they explained to me how well it works. They are Great Lakes fishermen, and the thing about fishing on the Great Lakes is you need to be right on target with the spots you are fishing. This will put you right on target, and show you exactly what you are missing. No more guessing what the big clump of colors is on the bottom of your fishfinder. They let you cover lots of ground in minimal time. It lets you see both sides at one time, so you don't have to make more than one pass. It is an internal network that will connect any compatible lowrance fishfinder/gps on the boat. You can also add fuel, fluid, speed, trim tab, and temperature probes that will communicate with the master unit. As far as GPS, you can run all of the gps compatible units off of one sensor. It saves a lot of hassle with mounting of GPS sensor. On the last tournament I fished, Seth who I practiced with had two Lowrance LMS-520C Fish Finders, and a fuel flow sensor connected in his network. He was able to get a digital read out of his fuel consumption. Also when he marked his Waypoints from the front they were instantly on both units. For those of you who use or want to learn how to use GPS with fishing, at an affordable price, this is definately something to look into.

Tight Lines,
Pete

Burt Mullet Lakes BFL Tournament

This was the tournament I was looking forward to the most. Lake Burt and Mullet in Cheboygan Michigan. I practiced with a new friend from Detroit named Seth, and boy what a practice. During Practice you want to try not to hook the fish, just "Shake them off" . This way you won't freak them out for tournament time. On Thursday, I set up on three fish one was 14 in., one was about 2 lbs, and the big dog was 6.1 lbs. That was the biggest smallmouth bass I have ever caught. Unfortunatly I don't have a Pic. I forgot the camera. On Friday I was throwing a Zara Spook and boy did the fish go nuts over that side to side action. I managed a 5lber and several fish over 3lbs to come up and smack it. I went into the tournament with high hopes, especially after the amazing practice I had. Unfortunatly the pressure got to the fish and they turned off big time. I ended up with one smallmouth that weighted 2.5 lbs. At least it got me some points toward the Championship Regional.

Lake Geneva Big Bucks Bass

This past weekend me and my fishing partner Brad, fished a team tournament on Lake Geneva Wisconsin. It was primarily a Spawn tournament, both largemouth and smallmouth were bedded up. In practice on the day before the tournament I found two 5lbers and a smaller male on a bed, all the other fish me and Brad found were smaller. When the big day came and I went to find the fish only the male was there, we caught him and he ended up being our biggest fish he was 3.5 lbs. If only the other two were there we would have gotten a check. Most of my fish were caught on a Gary yamamoto Shad Shaped Worm in smoke color on a Drop Shot rig. For those of you that are new to fishing, a drop shot rig is when the hook is above the weight on the fishing line. It is used as a small finesse technique. I just got a brand new Drop Shot rod from G Loomis is is a Zero Power, which means it is ultra light. It was made for super light line and smaller drop shot weights. The rod is beautiful if you like to chase big fish and play with them for sport. My reel was a Team Diawa Sol. Talk about a super sweet reel, it is smooth with a silky smooth drag system. A smooth drag is key for using light line with big fish. No matter how good you think you are at fighting fish, having good equipment is key when you want to perform better.

Back to the tournament, we ended up with a limit of 6 fish for 19.28 lbs . Unfortunatly that wasn't good enough for a check. My buddy Blair finished in 3rd. We finished in I think 17-18th place. We left early. I can't wait for in a couple weeks I am going to Burt Mullet lakes in northern Michigan. Supposedly, there are huge smallmouth in those lakes. I am fishing as a co angler in the Wal Mart Bass Fishing League Michigan Division. I will let you know how it went after I come back.

Tight Lines
Pete

About Me

I am an aspiring bass fishing Professional, who currently works for a municipal water dept.
